Offline access to docmetrics documents
Unlike standard PDFs, enhanced docmetrics documents can dynamically report in-document form responses to an external server. The docmetrics system is able to collect this information in real time from readers who are connected to the Internet. In most instances, docmetrics can also collect data from offline readers, though not in real time.
A reader who attempts to view a docmetrics document while not connected the Internet will be allowed to access the content as normal. Form responses will be stored on the reader’s computer and sent to the docmetrics server the next time that reader accesses a docmetrics document while online.
It should also be noted that version 7 of Adobe Reader is unable to display docmetrics forms for readers who are not connected to the Internet. To maintain a positive reader experience, an offline reader who tries to access a docmetrics document using version 7 will be given access to the document’s content, without having to submit any forms.
