In-document forms

Go beyond the web form

Companies commonly use web registration forms to gather data on prospective customers who download their white papers, case studies and other PDF-based marketing materials. This has proved to be a popular way of using content to generate sales leads.

Docmetrics empowers marketers to place forms inside their electronic documents. A single registration form can be used or multiple forms and surveys can be embedded throughout a document, with each providing access to a different part of the content.

Unlike web forms, docmetrics in-document forms can

  • capture data on “pass along” readers who receive content from colleagues
  • ask detailed lead qualifying questions, without impacting the reader experience

Capture data on "pass along" readers

Because electronic documents can easily be shared via email, they make powerful viral marketing tools. Pass along helps companies to reach more readers and get their PDFs into the hands of decision makers, who often receive content from less senior colleagues.

Using web forms, marketers can only gather lead generation data from readers who download documents directly from company websites. They cannot capture any data on the pass along readers these individuals share content with.

Embedding forms within documents allows marketers to capture data after documents have been downloaded. This empowers them to gather data on all of their readers, including valuable but previously unavailable data on pass along readers.

Qualify leads in real time

In order to gather enough data to identify which of their readers are most likely to become customers, marketers must often create long, clumsy web forms that discourage readers from providing valid data or downloading content at all.

With docmetrics, marketers can flexibly distribute customized lead qualifying questions throughout their documents. By doing so, they can ask lead qualification questions directly relevant to content, while readers are engaged with that content.

Using docmetrics forms

Docmetrics provides users with a range of useful preset forms and form fields (registration fields, drop-down menus etc). The docmetrics system also makes it simple for users to create their own customized forms and form fields.

It is easy for users to add forms to their documents, dynamically update existing forms and customize the appearance of forms. Users can also fully customize the behavior of their forms (for example, which pages a form will provide access to, once completed).

Docmetrics forms and the reader experience

When a reader opens a docmetrics document, most of the document’s content will be obscured by a translucent layer. In-document forms will appear superimposed above this obscuring layer.

Once a form has been completed the parts of the obscuring layer it has been set to remove will disappear, revealing the content. Users can require their readers to complete forms in order to access content or allow them to skip forms they do not wish to complete.
